The hearing into the deaths of two children in Xylofagou continued on Thursday, with new evidence presented before the Sovereign Base Areas court in Dhekelia, as the court considers the father's request to be released temporarily so he can travel to Bulgaria to attend his sons' funeral.
The tragedy took place last June in Xylofagou, where the two brothers were found dead inside a car. The defence lawyer for the father, presenting the request for his client's release, challenged the experts' finding that a fault had been identified in the vehicle's locking system. He also rejected the prosecution's argument that the children had been left alone and unsupervised, arguing that on the day of the tragedy they had been in the care of the defendant's brother and cousin. The prosecution rejected the defence's position.
Ruling expected Friday
The court reserved its decision until Friday on whether to grant the defendant's request to attend his children's funeral. The defendant denies both charges he faces, of causing death through a reckless and careless act, one charge for each child.
