Plans for the Cyprus University of Technology’s expansion have moved forward with the launch of an open architectural ideas competition for the masterplan of a new university campus in central Limassol.
The project is intended to provide modern academic and research facilities capable of meeting the university’s growing educational, research and development needs.
A new campus in central Limassol
The university’s Second Development Hub will be built on the site of the former Limassol General Hospital and the neighbouring grounds of the First Technical School.
Both plots were granted to the Cyprus University of Technology, known as CUT, following a decision by the Council of Ministers in February 2024.
The development forms part of a broader plan to create an integrated, modern and sustainable university campus in the centre of Limassol.
Competition seeks sustainable design
The architectural competition aims to select a comprehensive proposal of high architectural quality that combines functionality, sustainability and accessibility while respecting the urban and social character of the surrounding area.
The process is being conducted in cooperation with the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber, ETEK, which is providing scientific and technical support for the competition.
Strategic project for CUT and Limassol
CUT Rector Professor Panayiotis Zaphiris said in a social media post that the competition marked a significant step towards implementing a project of strategic importance for both the university and Limassol.
He said the objective was to create a modern, sustainable and open university environment that would serve education, research and society for decades to come.
Proposals must be submitted by 12.30 pm on 7 December 2026.
