The three suspects were arrested on 28 August in Larnaca and Famagusta following information received through Europol about alleged planned contract killings in Cyprus.

Three suspects arrested in Larnaca and Famagusta over an alleged murder conspiracy and participation in a criminal organisation will remain in custody for a further eight days.

The suspects, who were arrested on 28 August, appeared again before the Famagusta District Court, which convened in Larnaca and approved the renewal of their detention orders for eight days.

The arrests followed information received through Europol concerning alleged plans for murders in Cyprus in exchange for payment. The investigation was conducted in coordination with Danish authorities.

Europol information

According to an earlier statement by Cyprus Police, the force immediately activated an operational plan after receiving information through Europol about alleged planned killings in Cyprus for payment.

The operation was carried out in cooperation with a team from the Danish Police.

A coordinated assessment of information and evidence led to the issuing of judicial warrants and an operation in the Larnaca and Famagusta districts, during which the three suspects were arrested.

Cyprus Police said the case concerns a serious investigation into an alleged conspiracy to commit murder and participation in a criminal organisation.

The investigation is being conducted by a Special Investigation Team at Police Headquarters, in cooperation with the relevant European authorities.

Investigations remain ongoing.
