New cycling routes in the Troulloi municipal district of Aradippou will be officially inaugurated on Sunday, 20 September, in a project aimed at boosting rural tourism and encouraging sustainable outdoor activities.
The inauguration ceremony will be led by Deputy Minister of Tourism Costas Koumis at 10.30am.
EU-funded tourism initiative
The project was implemented under the second call of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism's Grant Scheme for the revitalisation of mountainous, remote and rural areas through the creation of authentic visitor experiences.
Funding for the cycling routes was provided by the European Union's NextGenerationEU programme through Cyprus' Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Three routes of varying difficulty
According to the Municipality of Aradippou, the new cycling network connects points of natural and local interest and includes three route options of varying difficulty levels.
The broader objective is to strengthen the local economy, enhance the visitor experience and increase tourism flows to inland communities.
Officials said the project complements wider initiatives promoting outdoor activities and authentic experiences in the Cypriot countryside.
Inaugural ride planned
Following the opening ceremony, participants will take part in a 1.3-kilometre cycling ride, accompanied by police escorts.
The event will be attended by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, the Mayor of Aradippou and members of the municipal council.
Both the ceremony and the start of the cycling route will take place outside the Troulloi Community Building.
Growing focus on cycling tourism

The project adds to broader efforts to promote cycling tourism in the Larnaca district. The Larnaca Tourism Board currently offers eight themed cycling routes across the region, including trails focused on Neolithic heritage, gastronomy and Venetian towers.
Officials hope such initiatives will encourage more visitors to explore rural Cyprus by bicycle, supporting a more sustainable form of travel.
