The Limassol District Court today ordered the six-day detention of a 35-year-old man, who was arrested yesterday while collecting a postal package containing around 1.2kg of methamphetamine.
The arrest followed cooperation between the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime (DAOE) and the authorities of a European country. They had informed the Cypriot authorities that a postal package containing methamphetamine with a gross weight of one kilogram and 197 grams was being transported to Cyprus.
The package was located on 21 October at Larnaca airport, where it had arrived from abroad, in cooperation with the Department of Customs.
Yesterday, Friday, at around 16:00, DΑΟΕ officers arrested the 35-year-old for an offence committed in flagrante delicto as the package was being delivered to him and he presented himself as its recipient.
He is being investigated for offences involving the importation and possession of drugs, possession with intent to supply another person, and money laundering.
