Low pressure and unstable conditions are affecting the region, bringing local rain and isolated thunderstorms to Cyprus through to Sunday, according to the Department of Meteorology. Wednesday night will be partly cloudy, with isolated showers or storms expected along the coasts and in the western mountains. Winds will blow mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, light and locally moderate on the coasts at 3 to 4 Beaufort, though during storms they may temporarily change direction and strengthen to 5 to 6 Beaufort with stronger gusts. The sea will be slightly rough and calm to slightly rough in sheltered areas. Temperatures will drop to around 16C inland, 19C on the coasts and 9C on the higher mountains.
Thursday's forecast
Isolated showers or a storm are expected on the coasts on Thursday morning. From midday onwards, local rain and isolated storms will develop, mainly over the mountains, inland and on the northern and western coasts, with hail possible during storms and winds that may temporarily change direction and strengthen to 5 to 6 Beaufort with stronger gusts. Winds will otherwise be mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, becoming strong at 5 Beaufort on the southern coasts in the afternoon. The sea will be slightly rough and calm to slightly rough in sheltered areas. Temperatures will rise to around 27C inland and on the southern and eastern coasts, around 26C on the remaining coasts and around 16C on the higher mountains. Thursday evening will be partly cloudy with isolated showers or a storm on the coasts, light and initially locally moderate winds at 3 to 4 Beaufort and a slightly rough sea.
Rain through the weekend
Local rain and isolated storms are expected at intervals on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, mainly on the coasts and in the mountains during the mornings and at night, and inland at other times. Hail is expected to fall during storms. Temperatures are not expected to change significantly and will remain below normal for the time of year.
