At just 27, Sophia Christodoulou achieved a result few would have expected, emerging as EDEK’s top vote-getter nationwide in one of the most difficult elections in the party’s history.
The young lawyer and president of EDEK Youth ran in an election for the first time, securing 1,719 votes. Her performance came as the historic socialist party failed to win a seat in the House of Representatives for the first time since 1970, ending a long period of uninterrupted parliamentary presence.
While the result marks a heavy political defeat for EDEK, Christodoulou’s showing appears to send a clear message within the party: that a younger generation is still seeking space, a voice and meaningful participation in the country’s political life.
In a post after the results were announced, Christodoulou thanked those who supported her, referring to a sense of responsibility and to the need for the party’s renewal and reorganisation.
