With the completion of the process of forming parliamentary committees, the new Parliament now moves into the phase of substantive legislative work. The plenary announced the composition and chairmanships of the committees, with the distribution reflecting the new political balance emerging from the parliamentary elections.
In terms of numbers, DISY and AKEL secured five committee chair positions each, while DIKO and ELAM secured three each. The remaining four committees are chaired ex officio by the Speaker of the House, Annita Demetriou.
Specifically, the Committee on Foreign and European Affairs will be chaired by Giorgos Karoullas (DISY), the Finance and Budget Committee by Christiana Erotokritou (DIKO), the Interior Committee by Aristos Damianou (AKEL), and the Defence Committee by Evgenios Hamboullas (ELAM).
The Education and Culture Committee will be chaired by Chrysanthos Savvidis (DIKO), the Transport, Communications and Works Committee by Sotiris Ioannou (ELAM), the Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Committee by Nikos Georgiou (DISY), and the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee by Giannakis Gavriil (AKEL).
The Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance Committee will be chaired by Giorgos Koukoumas (AKEL), the Legal, Justice and Public Order Committee by Fotini Tsiridou (DISY), and the Health Committee by Savia Orfanidou (DISY).
The Committee on Monitoring Development Plans and Control of Public Expenditure will be chaired by Zacharias Koulias (DIKO), the Refugees, Enclaved, Missing Persons and Affected Persons Committee by Nikos Kettirios (AKEL), the Environment Committee by Linos Papagiannis (ELAM), the Human Rights and Gender Equality Committee by Christos Christofides (AKEL), and the Institutions, Values and Commissioner for Administration Committee by Dimitris Dimitriou (DISY).
At the same time, the Speaker of the House, Annita Demetriou, serves ex officio as chair of the Special Committee on Asset Declarations, the Committee on Parliamentary Rules, the ad hoc Committee on Revision and Modernisation of House Rules, and the Special Parliamentary Ethics Committee of Members of Parliament.
