A confidential letter from DIKO leader Nikolas Papadopoulos to President Nikos Christodoulides reportedly prompted the postponement of Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting, amid discussions on a possible reshuffle and appointments to semi-governmental organisations.

A confidential letter sent by DIKO president Nikolas Papadopoulos to President Nikos Christodoulides appears to be behind the postponement of the Cabinet meeting originally scheduled for today, Wednesday, July 1.

The meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday, July 2, at 9:30am at the Presidential Palace.

In the letter, dated June 30, 2026, and obtained by Politis, Papadopoulos requests a meeting between President Christodoulides and the Secretariat of the Democratic Party at the earliest opportunity to discuss three key issues:

  • A possible Cabinet reshuffle;
  • Upcoming appointments to the boards of semi-governmental organisations;
  • The operation of the governing coalition and cooperation between the two sides.

The letter, marked “confidential,” carries significant political weight as it signals DIKO’s intention to place on the agenda matters relating both to the composition of the government and the broader functioning of its cooperation with President Christodoulides.

The timing of the Cabinet postponement has fuelled speculation that discussions are under way at the Presidential Palace regarding the issues raised by DIKO, particularly the prospect of a government reshuffle and the upcoming appointments to semi-governmental bodies.
