George Pamboridis formally entered the race for DISY's 2028 presidential nomination on Monday, stressing party unity and confidence in the integrity of the internal election process.

George Pamboridis officially submitted his candidacy for the DISY nomination for the 2028 presidential election on Monday, arriving at the party's headquarters on Pindarou Street accompanied by his wife, Galatia Pamboridi.

In contrast to rival candidate Averof Neophytou, Pamboridis arrived without an organised gathering of supporters, opting for a low-key appearance as he formally launched his campaign.

Focus on a clean and credible process

Speaking after filing his nomination, Pamboridis said he was looking forward to a high-quality internal election campaign.

"I submitted my candidacy for the DISY nomination. I look forward to a quality electoral process."

He also expressed confidence that the party machinery would safeguard the credibility and integrity of the vote.

Message of unity

One of the most notable aspects of his remarks was his reference to Neophytou.

Rather than attacking his opponent, Pamboridis endorsed Neophytou's earlier call for unity following the internal election.

"I endorse the statement of my friend Averof regarding the day after 28 November."

The comment was widely interpreted as a signal that, despite the competition between the two candidates, both camps should unite behind the eventual winner once the vote is over.

Different styles, same contest

Pamboridis' understated arrival highlighted the contrasting approaches of the two contenders.

While Neophytou sought to demonstrate organisational strength and broad support, Pamboridis presented himself with a more restrained and lower-profile approach.

The contest will culminate on 28 November, when DISY members will vote to choose the party's presidential nominee for the 2028 election.
