Pavlos Kontides climbed to sixth place overall in the ILCA 7 category at the Los Angeles Grand Slam after the completion of the first five races of the regatta.
The Cypriot sailor recovered strongly after finishing 27th in the opening race, which is currently his discard result, to move into contention near the top of the standings.
Strong recovery after opening race
Following his result in the first race, Kontides produced a series of strong performances:
- 3rd place in race two
- 8th place in race three
- 8th place in race four
- 5th place in race five
The results lifted him to sixth overall with 24 points.

Britain's Michael Beckett leads the ILCA 7 standings with 10 points.
He is followed by:

In the ILCA 6 category, Marilena Makri was in 20th place after the completion of five races.
