A 5.2‑magnitude earthquake struck south‑western China, forcing thousands to evacuate and causing building collapses.
The quake hit early on Monday, 18 May, leaving two people dead.
Tremors were felt not only in Liuzhou but across several major areas of Guangxi, including Guilin, Guigang, Wuzhou, Hechi, Nanning and Laibin.

More than 7,000 people in Liuzhou were forced to evacuate as search and rescue operations continued, with local authorities warning of disruptions to transport.
Two deaths have been confirmed, while one person remains missing and four others were taken to hospital, none with life‑threatening injuries, according to CCTV and the state news agency Xinhua.
In addition, 13 buildings collapsed in the early hours of Monday, state broadcaster CCTV reported, while cracks have been recorded in several other buildings, raising concerns about further damage.
However, communications, electricity, water and gas supply systems remained operational, according to state media.
