Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan launched a fresh attack on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after prayers for Eid al-Adha, saying that events in Gaza had overshadowed this year’s holiday for the Muslim world.
Speaking from Camlica Mosque in Istanbul, Erdogan said: “We have lived Palestine, we have lived Gaza. What is happening in Palestine and Gaza represents a separate stance and opportunity for reflection for us during this Eid. I believe that this tyrant called Netanyahu will receive the lesson he deserves.”
Erdogan travelled in the morning from his residence in Kisikli to the large Camlica Mosque on Istanbul’s Asian side, where he prayed alongside members of the public and exchanged Eid greetings.
In remarks inside the mosque, the Turkish President described Eid al-Adha as “a holiday of devotion and dedication”, stressing that “the unity and brotherhood of the Islamic world must be preserved”.
Referring again to Gaza and Palestine, he said that “we seek this devotion for Gaza and Palestine”, adding that “as long as this unity exists, the Islamic world will remain strong and united in brotherhood”.
