A rare albino buffalo in Bangladesh, widely known as “Donald Trump” due to a blond tuft on its head, has been spared from slaughter during the Muslim festival of Eid al‑Adha following last‑minute government intervention.
The 700‑kilogram animal had already been sold and was set to be sacrificed along with other livestock as part of the religious celebrations.
However, the buffalo was saved after authorities stepped in, prompted by the widespread attention it had attracted through videos circulating on social media.
Interior Minister Salahuddin Ahmed ordered that the animal not be sacrificed, that the buyer be compensated and that the buffalo be transferred to the national zoo in the capital, Dhaka.
The animal had become a viral attraction in recent weeks, drawing large crowds and turning a routine purchase into a nationwide curiosity.
