President Christodoulides to Pay First Official Visit to Kazakhstan

First‑ever visit by a Cypriot head of state includes talks, MoUs, business forum and embassy inauguration in Astana.

 

President Nikos Christodoulides will pay the first official visit of a head of state of the Cyprus Republic to Kazakhstan next week.

According to Deputy Government Spokesman Yiannis Antoniou, President Christodoulides will be accompanied by members of the Council of Ministers and a business delegation.

The President and his entourage will travel to Kazakhstan on June 2, with the first direct flight connecting the two countries.

The next day President Christodoulides will hold a tete-a-tete with his counterpart, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, followed by expanded talks between the delegations of the two countries.

Tokayev will award Christodoulides the state decoration “Order of Friendship”.

In the presence of the two Presidents, Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed between the two countries in the fields of Higher Education and Research, Culture, Sports, Information and Communication Technologies, Cybersecurity and e-Government. In addition, an MoU will be signed between the Cyprus-Kazakhstan Chambers of Commerce.

The two leaders will make statements to the media after which President Christodoulides will attend an official lunch hosted in his honor by the President of Kazakhstan.

Christodoulides is also due to address the Cyprus-Kazakhstan Business Forum at the Astana International Economic Center, followed by a visit at the Alem A.I. International Centre for Artificial Intelligence.

In addition, the Cypriot President will inaugurate the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Astana, in the presence of Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev.

The President will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, Energy Minister Michalis Damianos, Deputy Minister to the President Irini Piki,  Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Nikodemos Damianos, and others.

The Cypriot delegation will return to the island on Thursday, June 4.
