A man set himself on fire on Thursday evening a short distance from the United Nations headquarters in New York and later succumbed to his injuries, according to the city's police department.
The New York Police Department told Agence France-Presse that it received a call at 6:32 p.m. local time reporting that a man had set himself on fire near the UN headquarters.
Investigation Underway
"The victim was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital" in Manhattan, police said, adding that an investigation is ongoing.
Authorities have not provided any assessment regarding the motive behind the act.
However, according to a report by the New York Post, the man, dressed in the attire of a Tibetan monk, placed a Tibetan flag beside him before setting himself on fire.
