US President Donald Trump has shared another artificial intelligence-generated video on his Truth Social platform, this time casting himself in the role of a doctor treating well-known public figures.
In the clip, “Dr Donald Trump” diagnoses a series of celebrities with so-called “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS), a political term often used by Trump supporters to describe what they view as an obsessive hostility toward the US president.
The roughly 90-second video features AI-generated versions of several celebrities who have been publicly critical of Trump, including Whoopi Goldberg, Robert De Niro, Julia Roberts, Rosie O'Donnell, Edward Norton and John Leguizamo.
What happens in the video
The AI-generated Trump opens the video by asking: “Have you or someone you know been diagnosed with TDS?”
“The symptoms can be relentless. Fortunately, I'm Dr Trump and I have a plan for your treatment,” the digital version of the president says.
The video then introduces a series of supposed “patients.”
The AI-generated Robert De Niro says: “I couldn't eat, I couldn't sleep, I was angry all the time. I made everyone around me miserable.”
Julia Roberts appears saying: “I feel like I've aged 20 years in the last two years,” adding that she had begun to worry about her future.
Rosie O'Donnell claims she has been “suffering for more than a decade,” while Whoopi Goldberg says she believed there was “no hope left” for her.
The ‘cure’
Only at the end of the video is the supposed treatment revealed.
“Stop reading fake news, pray, and if you feel stressed, just drink a diet soda like I do, and you'll see a tremendous difference in your life,” the AI-generated Trump says.
A term Trump has used for years
Trump has long used the phrase “Trump Derangement Syndrome” to describe his critics.
He recently remarked from the Oval Office that he had heard it was “actually a disease.”
The term is derived from “Bush Derangement Syndrome,” a phrase coined in 2003 by American columnist Charles Krauthammer.
Krauthammer described it as “the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people in reaction to the policies, the presidency, or even the existence of George W. Bush.”
Several of the celebrities featured in the video have publicly clashed with Trump over the years.
Robert De Niro, for example, has previously described Trump as an “existential threat to the freedoms and security” of the United States.
