At least eight people were killed in Russia following Ukrainian drone strikes targeting two logistics facilities, while a fire at an oil storage facility in the Moscow region led to the evacuation of a maternity hospital, according to local authorities.
“Seven night-shift workers were killed when enemy drones struck a logistics centre belonging to Wildberries,” the Russian e-commerce giant, regional governor Yevgeny Pervyshov said on Telegram. He added that the attack in Kotovsk, west of Moscow, injured another 24 people.
Oil storage facility
Another Wildberries warehouse in Elektrostal, in the Moscow region, was hit by falling drone debris, according to regional governor Andrei Vorobyov. He said one person was killed and 37 others were injured.
A fire also broke out at an oil storage facility in Noginsk, Vorobyov said, adding that two people were injured and a nearby maternity hospital was evacuated “as a precaution”.
A French news agency reporter saw thick black smoke rising over the city on Saturday morning, while numerous firefighting vehicles were heading towards the site from Moscow.
The Moscow region was targeted by more than 370 drones overnight, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said. “Most of them were destroyed by air defence systems while they were still far away. Sixty-four enemy drones were destroyed as they approached Moscow itself,” he wrote on Telegram.
Russian strikes
Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian cities far from the front line in retaliation for daily Russian strikes launched as part of Moscow’s invasion, which began in February 2022.
“Two major supply facilities were hit — in the Moscow and Tambov regions, located more than 500 kilometres and almost 700 kilometres from the front line,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on X, claiming the facilities were used by Russia “to supply sanctioned components for the production of drones and navigation equipment”.
In Ukraine, Russian strikes killed one person and injured 13 others.
In the Black Sea, a vessel flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda was hit, killing one person and injuring three others, according to Odesa regional governor Oleh Kiper.
According to Ukraine’s Interior and Transport Ministries and local authorities, a five-member family in the Chernihiv region, four people aboard a Marshall Islands-flagged vessel, and one man in Kherson were also injured.
