Damascus called the attack unjustified, while a US envoy warned it was an unnecessary escalation.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry said the air strikes targeted the Abu al-Duhur base in the north-western province of Idlib on Tuesday morning. Israel has yet to comment on the attack.

Damascus urges international action

Syria “categorically condemns the Israeli air strikes” and considers them an “unjustified act of aggression”, the ministry said in a statement.

It called on the international community and the UN Security Council to adopt a firm stance against what it described as Israel’s repeated violations of Syrian sovereignty.

US envoy warns against escalation

US Special Presidential Envoy for Syria and Iraq Tom Barrack also described the strikes as an “unnecessary escalation” that does not contribute to regional stability.

In a post on X, Barrack expressed US concern over the attack and said Washington was encouraging all parties to prioritise reasoned dialogue over further military action.
