Dutch police launched a major operation in the eastern village of Overasselt early on Tuesday after gunfire erupted at a house near the German border. A security guard was killed, while two police officers were wounded, although neither was in critical condition.
Several people were arrested in connection with the case.
Masked figures captured on CCTV
Security camera footage published by the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf showed 10 masked figures moving through a residential area, with some appearing to carry heavy weapons.
According to De Gelderlander, the person killed was a security guard at the property where the exchange of gunfire took place. A similar incident occurred at the same house a year earlier.

Local media said the case was likely connected to Dutch drug trafficker Jos Leijdekkers, also known as “Bolle Jos” or “Chubby Jos”.
Leijdekkers is one of the Netherlands’ most wanted criminals and has been convicted of international cocaine trafficking. He is currently in Sierra Leone and is reported to have had a relationship with the daughter of President Julius Maada Bio.
“What a terrible act of violence in Overasselt. We will not tolerate this kind of violence,” Justice Minister David van Weel wrote on X.
