The United Nations Secretary-General is considering a potential next step on the Cyprus issue in the near term, according to information obtained by the Cyprus News Agency.

Sources said discussions between Antonio Guterres and his personal envoy on Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguin, have raised expectations that the United Nations will soon clarify how it intends to proceed.

Those involved are waiting to be briefed either by Holguin or by the UN more broadly, with the focus expected to be on substantive developments rather than process.

The same sources pointed to an intention by Guterres to move forward with a step in the coming period, although no further details have been made public.

There is still no information on when Holguin is expected to return to Cyprus.
