The House of Representatives has approved amendments to the distribution of parliamentary seats, confirming a shift in representation driven by changes in the updated electoral roll. With 38 votes in favour, the plenary endorsed the adjustment that strengthens Paphos’ presence in Parliament while slightly reducing Nicosia’s.
The decision follows the integration of the supplementary electoral roll of 2 October 2025. Under the revised allocation, Paphos gains an additional seat, rising from four to five, while Nicosia moves from twenty to nineteen. The change reflects the latest demographic balance, as the number of registered voters in each district determines their respective parliamentary weight.
Debate in the chamber centred on the need to maintain institutional consistency and ensure that representation remains aligned with population ratios. MPs also revisited the wider question of automatic voter registration, noting its importance in keeping the electoral roll accurate and up to date.
The redistribution will apply to the next electoral cycle, marking a small but symbolic shift in the political map, with Paphos emerging slightly stronger and Nicosia conceding one seat in the name of demographic accuracy.
