There was never an issue of EDEK leaving the government, party president Nikos Anastasiou said, clearing up the coalition member's position following a reshuffle on Friday which saw the Socialists reduced to one minister, originally from their ranks, Maria Panayiotou, without any additions to the cabinet, which saw four members leaving and an equal number of new entries, most from coalition centre wing DIKO and DIPA.
'We're just unhappy with the reshuffle because we expected the President to pay more attention to our party', Anastasiou noted, clarifying however that it was the absolute prerogative of Christodoulides to make his own choices.
Notwithstanding the Anastasiou remarks, the issue will be discussed at EDEK's politburo, but seemingly not in the shape of any drastic decisions that would see the party withdrawing from the coalition.
'We have never considered leaving the Nicos Christodoulides government which we supported following a relevant conference decision.'
EDEK personally communicated its displeasure at the way the reshuffle was handled, with the party leader calling up the President on Friday, following the announcements.
'I will be asking for a meeting with him next week to put forward the matter', Nikos Anastasiou concluded.
