UNFICYP has confirmed a new incident in the Avlona area of the UN buffer zone, with the situation currently remaining calm.

In response to a CNA query, UNFICYP Spokesperson Aleem Siddique said that UN peacekeepers were dispatched to the area to investigate.

“The situation remains calm and UN peacekeepers are engaging with both sides to prevent further tensions,” he said.

Media reports earlier stated that on Monday morning Turkish Cypriot tractors entered the Avlona buffer zone and proceeded to cultivate a plot of land belonging to a Greek Cypriot owner. The land in question is located within the area of responsibility of the United Nations.
