The strategy regarding the appropriation of Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied areas following the developments with Aikout and France, the mechanism for taking a statement from Annie Alexoui from Moscow, who through videos on social media makes various allegations, the problem of overcrowding in the Central Prisons, the proposed introduction of a waste burial tax amid the period of high cost of living, and references to the Cyprus issue during yesterday’s meeting between the Greek Prime Minister and the Turkish President are the main topics in today’s press.

Alithia, in its main story titled “Silence over the appropriation fiasco”, writes that two critical developments (Aikout-France) effectively nullify the “deterrent strategy” promoted by the Government. In another story it mentions that the Russian authorities did not respond to the Cypriot authorities regarding the status of Annie Alexoui in Russia, according to the Minister of Justice, and adds that this raises questions of mismanagement by the Cypriot Government. Elsewhere, the newspaper reports that there are two legislative proposals in Parliament regarding the Authority, either tightening or abolishing it, while the Government proposes transferring it to the Ministry of Finance.

Politis titles its main story “Annie will speak from Moscow” and writes that the Legal Service and Police have concluded on the mechanism through which a statement will be taken from Ioanna Fotiou, known as Annie Alexoui. Elsewhere it publishes a photograph from the meeting between the Greek Prime Minister and the Turkish President in Ankara and writes that they are maintaining a good atmosphere. In another story it refers to the Authority and writes about three plus one proposals in Parliament regarding its future.

Phileleftheros, under the title “Drowned in Prisons”, refers in its main story to the overcrowding in the Central Prisons and writes that in facilities meant for 650-720 people there are now 1,164 inmates. In another story it publishes a photograph of a dam and mentions that rain and snow are expected, but the dams are drying up. Elsewhere, the newspaper writes that the Police recommended prosecuting the Mayor of Paphos for an offence that carries a three-year prison sentence, but when the files reached the Attorney General’s office, the facts had changed.

Haravgi, in its main story titled “’Green’ tax raid amid high cost of living”, writes that the Government, amid high prices and social pressure, has chosen to impose from 2026 the so-called waste burial tax. In another story it reports that Cypriot farmers are organising a mass mobilisation on Saturday against Mercosur. Elsewhere, publishing a large photograph, it writes that the final study ends the integrated development of Larnaca port and marina.

The English-language Cyprus Mail, under the main story titled “Mitsotakis promotes Cypriot solution”, writes that the Greek Prime Minister told the Turkish President that there is now a window of opportunity to find a solution to the Cyprus issue. In another story it writes that Phaedon Phaedonos rejects a claim of blackmail as a ridiculous story. Elsewhere it writes that MPs are challenging the application process of former Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis for employment.
