Nicosia hosts Monday and Tuesday a meeting of the High Level Group on Gender Mainstreaming, within the framework of the Cyprus EU Presidency.
The Group is composed of high-ranking officials from the 27 member states and the meeting was attended by representatives of the European Commission, the Council of the EU and the European Institute for Gender Equality, a press release by Cyprus EU Council Presidency Secratariat says.
Today a presentation was made on the priorities of the actions of the Trio Presidency of Poland - Denmark - Cyprus, and Ireland, which will follow in the next six months.
Participants also discussed progress achieved at European level in the transposition of three Directives to strengthen the implementation of the principle of equal pay between men and women for equal work or work of equal value, through pay transparency and enforcement mechanisms, improving the balanced representation of genders in management positions of listed companies and related measures to combat violence against women and domestic violence.
At the same time, efforts to promote gender equality and women's rights were discussed, on a global scale.
During the proceedings, the Cyprus Presidency's programme in the field of gender equality was presented in detail.
Online violence
The findings of a European survey were also presented. The survey was prepared in collaboration with the European Institute for Gender Equality for the purposes of the Cyprus Presidency on the topic: "From lived reality to policy-making: Tackling online violence against girls in the EU".
The survey, which was carried out in 10 EU member states, including Cyprus, offers a comprehensive mapping of the phenomenon of online gender-based violence against girls aged 13-18, the press release reads.
In addition, the report highlights the forms and consequences of violence, the experiences of adolescents and the existing legal frameworks of EU MS , proposing specific measures for prevention, education and strengthening the accountability of digital platforms.
As noted in the speech of the Minister of Justice and Public Order, which was delivered on his behalf by the Commissioner for Gender Equality, Josie Christodoulou, the dedication and constant support and commitment of the member states demonstrates not only the common goal, but also the common commitment to shaping a Europe that is fairer, more inclusive and more resilient to modern challenges.
