A 27-year-old man was arrested in Paphos after officers from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) discovered drugs in a vehicle and later during a search of a residence.
Police stopped a car for inspection yesterday afternoon in an area of Paphos. The vehicle was driven by the 27-year-old man, while a 33-year-old woman was travelling as a passenger.

Drugs found in vehicle
During a search of the vehicle, officers found the following:
- Five packages containing green dry plant material resembling cannabis, with a total weight of approximately six grams.
- Two packages containing a white substance resembling cocaine, with a total weight of approximately one gram.
- Six packages containing a white crystalline substance resembling methamphetamine, with a total weight of approximately one gram.
The 27-year-old stated that the substances belonged to him and was arrested for offences committed in the act.
During the search of the vehicle, officers also found a sum of money, which was taken as evidence as part of the investigation.
Suspect escapes during house search
The suspect was then taken to his residence for a search conducted under a court warrant.
When members of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit entered the house, two unidentified individuals were found in a bedroom on the first floor.

One of them fled by jumping from a balcony door and managed to escape before officers could stop him or establish his identity.
The second person, a 28-year-old man, was stopped and subsequent checks showed that he was residing illegally in the Republic. He was arrested for the offence of illegal stay.
Drugs and equipment discovered
In another bedroom on the first floor, which was locked and for which the keys were found in the possession of the 27-year-old suspect, officers discovered:
- Thirteen packages containing cannabis, with a total weight of approximately 14 grams.
- 161 packages containing plant material resembling synthetic cannabis, with a total weight of approximately 40 grams.
- A precision scale bearing traces of cannabis.

Court appearance expected
The 27-year-old is expected to appear today before the Paphos District Court for the issuance of a detention order.
