The Turkish-Cypriot leader visited occupied villages in the Trikomo-Karpass area with the purpose of 'talking to residents about the issues they are facing', according to a statement from his 'office'.
He further held talks with Jakhongir Khaydarov, Head of the UN Development Programme Cyprus Office.
The meeting focused on the various bicommunal projects currently managed by the Programme in Cyprus.
According to a statement, they exchanged views on the progress of active initiatives, including 'cultural heritage conservation and infrastructure improvements.'
They further discussed potential new areas of collaboration and ways of strengthening the effectiveness of UNDP’s work on the island.
Erhurman visited the villages of Rizokarpaso, Yialousa, Koma toy Yialou, Galateia, Eptakomi and Komi Kepir in the Karpass peninsula, where he met with residents, 'noting problems and responding to their questions', as a spokesperson said.
The Turkish-Cypriot leader noted that the purpose of his visit to the area, including the primary school of Rizokarpaso, where he talked with the head teacher and pupils, was to be close to people and hear their concerns first hand.
'It's not just about the Cyprus issue and external affairs,' he added, referring to a 'coordinating role' in internal affairs, as he looks to act on problems faced by his community.
He was accompanied by 'local officials'.
