The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, will travel to Brussels on Thursday to participate in an informal discussion with members of the European Council, against the backdrop of the ongoing war in the Middle East.

In addition to the meeting with EU leaders, Guterres is scheduled to hold separate bilateral talks with the President of the European Council, António Costa, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. The agenda of these discussions is expected to include international and global developments, relations between the United Nations and the European Union, and the broader issue of multilateralism.

During his stay in Brussels, Guterres will also meet Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Development Cooperation, Maxime Prévot. He is also expected to hold talks with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.
