Developments are expected during the day regarding serious allegations and references contained in an article by author and journalist Makarios Drousiotis. Mr Drousiotis is expected to appear before the Police today to provide a statement concerning the claims in which he refers to a fraternity, judges, lawyers and politicians.

A special unit has been established at Police Headquarters to investigate all aspects of the allegations raised by Makarios Drousiotis. According to information, Mr Drousiotis is expected to give his statement today to members of the investigative team, possibly accompanied by his lawyer.

Despite the public reaction that followed the publication of the claims, all individuals named have rejected the allegations, describing them as fictional and referring to fabricated evidence. Mr Drousiotis has insisted that he holds additional material which, according to him, supports his claims and that he is prepared to submit it to any authority conducting the investigation.

Former judge expected to file complaint

Former judge Michalis Christodoulou, who appears in several references in the article by Mr Drousiotis, is also expected to appear today at the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department.

According to information from Politis, Mr Christodoulou is expected to visit the department with members of his family in order to file a complaint against Mr Drousiotis over the publication of what he describes as false information that damages their reputation.

In a telephone intervention on a television programme on Alpha, Mr Christodoulou referred to the woman cited by Mr Drousiotis. According to the claims presented by Mr Drousiotis, the woman identified as “Santi” is the person from whom he obtained the material he presented.

Asked whether he knows the woman referred to as “Santi”, Mr Christodoulou stated that he knows a woman with a Cypriot name, “Kyriaki for example”, who entered his life in September 2020 until the autumn of 2021. When asked how they met, he said he would provide details about the circumstances of their acquaintance and the reasons she became part of his life during the statement he will give to the Police.

“I will give a statement to the Police also regarding the messages we exchanged. I do not wish to provide details. I tried to support her as a father would for issues that are not for the public domain,” he said.

Mobile phone to be examined

Asked whether he knows Dimitris Papadakis and Morphakis Solomonides, Mr Christodoulou replied categorically that he had never exchanged even a greeting with them. Regarding his relationship with the Attorney General and the Assistant Attorney General, he said they had cooperated in the context of two investigations in which he had participated, one concerning the Central Prison and another regarding the Takata airbags case.

In a separate development, Dimitris Papadakis stated in remarks to Politis Radio that he has already handed his mobile phone to a recognised forensic analyst and expert. The findings of the examination, he said, will also be submitted to Police experts for investigation.

He added that he has been using the same mobile phone since 2019 and stressed that whatever the result of the examination, it should be delivered to the Chief of Police.
