The Ministry of Education is further strengthening the institution of Summer Public Schools by increasing their number from 58 to 64 for the 2025-2026 school year, expanding coverage to all five districts of Cyprus.

According to a ministry announcement, the longstanding aim of the programme is to offer learning opportunities and creative activities, particularly for children from vulnerable population groups. The 64 summer public schools will operate from June 22 to July 24, 2026. To meet needs, the programme will employ teachers from primary, pre-primary and special education, while a number of school assistants will also support children with special education needs.

Summer public schools implement a well-structured educational programme of creative activities aligned with children’s interests and differing abilities and needs. The curriculum includes visual arts, music, theatre, physical education and life skills, with themes linked to the summer period. Activities also include indoor and outdoor games, puppetry, reading promotion and library activities, among others. In addition, the Greek language learning programme for children with a migrant background will continue during the operation of the summer schools.

The summer public schools programme is offered free of charge to all children. Parents or guardians contribute financially only towards the cost of meals for children who attend the afternoon session. On a daily basis, the programme runs from 7:45am to 1:05pm, or until 4:00pm for children who opt for afternoon attendance.

For further information or clarification, interested parents or guardians are advised to contact the school their child attends.
