The detailed announcement on the findings of the final report into the so‑called 'Mafia State' is expected to be issued by the end of June, with the Independent Anti‑Corruption Authority rejecting claims of political motives and stressing that there is no link between the delay in publication and the parliamentary elections on 24 May.

Scope of the investigation

According to the Authority, the investigation involved 214 sessions, testimony from 150 witnesses and the collection of 793 exhibits, which together form the Final Report, spanning approximately 3,000 pages.

The report was delivered on time on 30 April 2026 in electronic form. The Authority said the inquiry was extensive, involving hearings and the submission of evidence by 41 legal entities and government departments.

Assessment still under way

The Authority clarified that it is not in a position at this stage to comment on the content of the report, as the legally prescribed procedures for its study and evaluation are still ongoing.

To that end, a Working Group has already been appointed, while all processes are being carried out under conditions of strict confidentiality, as required by law.

Detailed findings expected by end of June

A detailed announcement on the report’s findings is expected before the end of June 2026, although an exact date cannot be specified due to the volume of material involved.

At the same time, the Authority dismissed allegations of ulterior motives, stressing that there is no connection between the timing of publication and the parliamentary elections on 24 May.

Reasons for delays

The delay in completing the report was attributed, among others, to health reasons affecting two of the four inspection officers involved in the process.

The Authority made clear that no part of the report or its findings can be made public before the completion of all required procedures, describing any such action as “highly irresponsible”.

No further public statements

Finally, the Authority noted that beyond the present announcement, no further public statements will be made by its members on the matter.
