A transport ministry bill tabled in parliament on Thursday proposes increasing the fees for vehicle technical inspections (MOT) carried out by both private and public centres. The proposed changes affect category M1 vehicles (passenger cars with up to 8 seats, excluding the driver) and category N1 vehicles (light commercial vehicles up to 3,500 kg gross weight).

It entails fees going from €35 to €43 in Private Vehicle Testing Centres (ΙΚΤΕΟ).

Fees will go from €40 to €46 at Public Vehicle Testing Centres (KEMO)

According to the Transport Ministry's explanatory report, the fee hike is deemed necessary due to the administrative burden on the Republic of Cyprus, as well as the rising operational costs associated with conducting inspections. The aim is also to ensure the financial viability of private testing centres.

The proposal has received the green light from the Technical Committee on Fees and Charges and has now been referred to the House Transport Committee for further discussion.
