Katie Clerides was laid to rest at the Constantinos and Eleni Cemetery in Aglantzia, in the presence of the President of the Republic, relatives, friends, political figures, representatives of the Turkish Cypriot community, and civil-society groups.
Eulogy by the House President
Delivering the eulogy, House President and DISY leader Annita Demetriou stressed that Clerides “was the embodiment of the word together,” noting her instinct to reach out to people beyond party lines or labels. Demetriou underlined that Clerides never measured life by titles but by the bridges she built.
A message to Turkish Cypriots present
In an emotional passage, Demetriou turned to the Turkish Cypriots attending:
“I want to thank our Turkish Cypriot friends who are here today to honour the memory of our beloved Katie. This is exactly what she would have wanted. It is what she stood for throughout her life: the human being above all else, a united Cyprus built on respect, truth, and love.”
She closed with a plea to carry that spirit forward:
“Katie Clerides didn’t belong only to us. She belonged to all of us. And she will remain with us, always. The bridges she built cannot be torn down - they are there for us, and for those who come after us, to cross.”
