Harmful dust has returned to the island and according to the latest meteorological data, mostly wind directions and mild conditions across the country, it will persist with moderate to high concentrations at least through to Saturday, causing discomfort, as vulnerable groups must be on the frontline of protection.
At eight this morning, the Nicosia Traffic Station reading of Air Quality indicated almost double the safety level of 50, over 95 micrograms (PM10s). It was 75 in the Limassol area.
A high pressure system is in place, driving temperatures upwards to the mid-20s.
Today's Outlook
Clear skies throughout, with high cloud at intervals. Winds will mainly be northeasterly to southeasterly and in western areas light to moderate,southwesterly to northwesterly, turning moderte to strong force four to five in northern, eastern and southern coastal regions, over slight to moderate seas. Temperatures will rise to 25 degrees Celsius inland, 26 in coastal regions and 15 over the mountains.
Tonight
Fine and slightly overcast, with high cloud. Winds will be light to moderate mainly northwesterly to northwasterly, force three to four, over cam to slight seas. Temperatures will drop to 11 degrees Celsius inland, 15 in coastal regions and 8 on the mountains.
Outlook to Weekend
Mostly clear skies forecast, but dust remains, with the Met Office warning of higher concentrations. Temperatures will rise further on the weekend, significantly over the seasonal average.
