Authorities now consider their investigation on the Demosthenous murder as complete, following the extradition and remand of two 28 year olds from Thessaloniki, believed to have been active components of the death contract network.
The CID officers involved in the case nexus firmly believe that everyone involved in the killing, in whatever role, are in their custody.
Forensic examinations and testimony continue with the goal of making a conviction-solid presentation in court.
What is pending, in terms of significant evidence, is finding the murder weapon, the individual who ordered the hit and the motive that led to the premeditated murder. According to 'Politis' sources, it is unlikely that there will be any substantive development on those fronts anytime soon.
The two 28 year olds extradited from Greece, cousins born on the same day, were remanded in custody for seven days and by all counts, a case will be brought against them next Friday and referred to the Criminal Court for trial.
Greek authorities found them on October 30th having coffee in Thessaloniki and following due process, members of Limassol CID and other involved departments travelled to the city and brought them back to Cyprus. No other new evidence was heard in court on their alleged role, other than what investigators already know about the connection with their cars and that one of the them confided in a relative that he was involved.
Evidence gathered in Greece will now go through forensic examination, in an effort to verify the dna samples found and expected to provide significant answers. One of the extradited men are childhood friends with the 31 year old who's already in custody on the same case.
Two in the van
In 'handing out' so to speak, the role of each of the suspects, investigators now have clear indications, clues and evidence in place. It is considered a certain fact, according to what was presented in court, that the 28 year old who drove to Thessaloniki through the occupied territories, but also the 31 year old in custody, are the two people with the most active involvement in the crime. In other words, those in the van at the time of Demosthenous' execution.
In addition and following new evidence, the most likely scenario is that the person who pulled the trigger is one of the 28 year olds extradited from Greece. But it's still early days to determine if investigators will be able to tie in what each of those involved were doing, as it seems that they kept changing roles to avoid detection.
The fact that the 28 year olds are cousins is a negative, as genetic mistakes are possible.
The other four suspects are peripherally connected. The second 28 year old seems to be the man who helped in the killers getaway after they abandoned their motorcycle, while the 30 year old convict is the man who gave instructions for its purchase.
Yet another 30 year old was involved in buying the motorcycle, while a 51 year old is considered to be the individual who helped find a getaway vehicle and whose DNA was found in the petrol canisters used to torch the van in the aftermath of the crime.
