With Christmas approaching and toy shopping already in full swing, the Consumer Protection Service has launched a nationwide campaign to ensure that the toys on sale this year are as safe as they are cheerful.
According to the announcement, the campaign will run until Christmas and will cover more than 100 retail points across Cyprus. Inspectors will be checking shelves for toys that are unsafe or fail to meet safety standards, with the aim of withdrawing them from the market before they reach children’s hands.
Protecting young consumers
The goal is clear: safeguard children from hazardous toys and help parents shop with confidence. Alongside inspections, the campaign includes on-the-spot guidance for retailers about their legal obligations and the European safety standards they must follow.
The Service will also continue informing consumers directly, offering tips to help families stay safe throughout the holidays.
New safety leaflets for the festive season
As part of the campaign, an information leaflet titled “Tips for a Safe Christmas” has been published on the Service’s website. It includes practical advice on preventing common holiday-season accidents.
Parents are also reminded of the existing leaflet “Dangers from Small Objects”, which explains how to check for items that may pose a choking risk for children under the age of three.
