The west coast of Cyprus bore the brunt of the weakened Byron depression late last night and early today as it begun affecting the island in a low pressure wave set to persist until Tuesday.

A twister caused damage at the Paphos community of Tala early this morning, uprooting no less than ten trees which fell on buildings adjacent to the Vrasidas folk art museum.

Head of local council Ioannis Konnikos said the fire brigade and EAC crews were called to the scene, as debris set cabling on fire, which put power out for at least two hours, before electricity was restored.

The local council will financially support museum owner Vrasidas Neophytou, as there was extensive damage to the area.

'A twister hit again about a decade ago', Neophytou added.
