OELMEK will hold go on strike on Thursday, from 7:30 to 9:00, following a decision by the Organisation’s Central Administrative Council, which met on Monday, in the wake of the latest developments regarding the evaluation of teachers and educational work.
According to OELMEK, the decision to take industrial action was made due to the insistence, as the Organisation notes, on pushing forward the relevant legislation without addressing the real issues of the existing evaluation system. The Organisation states that long-standing instances of favouritism have been observed in schools, which are not addressed by the proposed regulations.
OELMEK emphasises that it will persist until the very last moment, aiming to establish a fair and merit-based evaluation system, stressing that secondary education teachers will be required to implement the legislation and, as such, cannot be excluded from the decision-making process.
It should be noted that the same day and time, a work stoppage will also take place organised by POED, with primary school teachers protesting the evaluation bill as well.
