Rainfall in December has reached 67% of the month’s normal average up to Monday morning, according to new data published by the Cyprus Department of Meteorology.
The average rainfall recorded in the free areas since 1 December stands at 71 millimetres.
Polis Chrysochous is the only area that has already exceeded its typical December rainfall, reaching 137% with a total of 137 millimetres recorded. Close to meeting the monthly average are Stavros tis Psokas at 97% (156.4 millimetres) and Gefyri Panagias at 93% (70 millimetres).
Several regions remain significantly below their expected December levels.
Saittas recorded the lowest percentage at just 33% (45.4 millimetres), followed by:
• Pano Panagia at 45% (71.9 millimetres)
• Paphos Airport at 49% (48.2 millimetres)
• Kellaki at 49% (57 millimetres)
• Xylotymbou at 49% (40.5 millimetres)
Season-to-date rainfall reaches 56% of normal
From 1 October to date, total average rainfall in the free areas amounts to 107.1 millimetres, corresponding to 56% of what is considered normal for the period.
The data highlights a continued rainfall deficit across much of the island, despite several days of recent storms.
