Premeditated Murder in Peyia After Death Meet

The Paphos CID is investigating a case of premeditated murder, following an altercation in the Peyia area just before midnight, resulting in the tragic death of 41 year old Bulgarian national Georgi Ivanov, who was stabbed in the abdomen and succumbed to his injuries a few hours after facing off with a man over personal differences.

Following complaints by locals, police rushed to the scene around 2340 and found a 30 year old, subsequently identified as the alleged killer, outside a home, with a parked car nearby, damaged in the front and its back window shattered.

During a patrol in the area, officers spotted a vehicle with five people, one of which was bearing a serious stab wound.

He was rushed to the Paphos General, where he underwent surgery but doctors were not able to save him. He succumbed to his injuries at four this morning. (January 18th).

A 28 year old, also in the car, was treated for cuts and lacerations across his torso and admitted for further care.

According to a preliminary police report, the 41 year old victim and the other four, traveled from Limassol to Paphos, to face off with the 30 year old over still unidentified personal differences.

During a verbal altercation, the alleged killer drew a knife and stabbed Ivanov. He was arrested this morning following a court order and remanded in custody for 8 days by the district court to facilitate investigations.
