Three members of the Board of Directors of the Youth Board of Cyprus (ONEK) have submitted their resignations shortly before the start of a scheduled board meeting, according to a written statement issued by Board Chair Konstantina Achilleos.
Achilleos noted that the timing of the resignations raises “reasonable questions,” as they preceded a planned discussion on issues relating to proper governance and administrative oversight.
According to the statement, the board had convened on Wednesday, 11 February, to examine “institutionally and collectively” matters concerning the organisation’s proper functioning and supervision. These included the “need to investigate possible procedural irregularities or administrative shortcomings.”
While describing the resignations as a personal decision that must be respected, Achilleos stressed that their timing necessitates safeguards to ensure they do not hinder “the full investigation of any potential disciplinary, administrative or other responsibilities, should they arise.”
“The Youth Board does not belong to individuals nor does it serve expediencies,” the statement reads. “It serves the youth of Cyprus and the public interest.”
Achilleos further underlined her commitment to transparency, accountability, institutional consistency and the smooth operation of the organisation, “with respect to the role entrusted to us by the President of the Republic.”
