Weather conditions during Holy Week will include rain or thunderstorms, a rise in temperature on Wednesday, a slight drop on Thursday, mainly clear weather on Good Friday, and uncertain conditions over Easter weekend, said Meteorological Officer Michalis Mouskos.
Speaking to CNA, Mouskos said the atmosphere had cleared of dust and no new dust events were expected during the Holy Week.
On Easter Saturday and Sunday, he said a precise forecast was not yet possible, as some weather models pointed to good weather while others indicated unsettled conditions.
Conditions early in the week
On Monday, he said, local showers and isolated thunderstorms had already developed, mainly in the mountains and the interior, with possible hail during storms. A yellow warning for thunderstorms was issued and remained in force until 5pm.
He added that no further rainfall was expected on Monday night, though some cloud would linger, mainly along the coast. Temperatures on Monday remained at seasonal averages, around 21 degrees Celsius inland and 20 degrees on the coasts. He noted that seasonal averages are slightly higher, between 22 and 23 degrees.
On Tuesday, temperatures are expected to reach 22 degrees inland and 20 degrees on the coasts. He said cloud would develop at midday and in the afternoon, bringing local showers and possibly a thunderstorm in the mountains and the interior, and later in the southern and eastern coastal areas.
Midweek improvement before new instability
Rainfall on Wednesday will be more limited than on Monday and Tuesday, he said. In the afternoon, developing cloud will bring isolated showers in the mountains and the southeast of the island. Temperatures will rise, reaching 24 degrees.
On Thursday, Mouskos said weather conditions will intensify compared with Wednesday. Local showers are expected on the coasts in the morning and evening, while cloud developing at midday and in the afternoon will bring local showers and isolated thunderstorms in the mountains, the interior and the southern and eastern coastal areas.
Mainly clear on Good Friday
He said no rainfall was expected on Good Friday, with mainly clear conditions alternating with cloud. Finally, he noted that temperatures were expected to fall slightly from Wednesday through to Good Friday.
