A cold snap continues to affect Cyprus and is expected to persist for the rest of the week. Beyond the 6 degree sharp drop in temperatures, it spells happy news for dam capacity, as the Meteorological Service forecasts steady showers over the next three days to the first Sunday of spring.
Snow has melted on Troodos, but might be making a quick return.
Sunny spells today will gradually give way to isolated rain and even light snowfalls on the highest reaches of Troodos. Winds will be northerly to northwesterly, initially light to moderate force three to four, later turning very strong force five to six, over moderate to rough seas in the west and north.
Temperatures will rise to 16 degrees Celsius inland, 18 on the eastern and southeastern coastal regions, 17 on the rest of the coastal areas and four on the mountains, where frost will form.
Isolated showers will continue this evening, mainly in northern areas, with snowfalls set to continue on Troodos, even across semi-mountainous regions. Winds will be northerly to northwesterly, light to moderate force three to four, turning strong force four to five at intervals, over rough seas.
Temperatures will drop to five degrees Celsius inland, six on the coasts and minus 3 on the mountains, where frost is expected to form.
The rainy, breezy and chilly outlook will persist through to Sunday, according to the forecast, with more snowfalls expected on the highest reaches of Troodos, but also areas of lower altitudes. Frost is possible on the plains too.
Temperatures will drop below the seasonal average.
