Russell Brand has been found guilty of rape and three counts of sexual assault following a trial concerning allegations dating back more than two decades, according to the Associated Press (AP).
The verdict was delivered on Thursday by Judge Joel Bennathan, who confirmed that the 51-year-old actor and presenter would face a prison sentence.
During the trial, prosecutors portrayed Brand as a ruthless, calculating and manipulative sexual predator. However, Brand denied all the allegations against him, maintaining that although he had been obsessed with sex and had led a highly promiscuous lifestyle during his younger years, he had never forced anyone to engage in sexual activity against their will.
The court found Brand guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault.
However, he was acquitted of two further rape charges and one count of attempted indecent assault.
Sentencing is expected to take place at a later stage of the proceedings. Judge Bennathan has already indicated that Brand's convictions will result in a custodial sentence, according to the AP.
