The Emmy-winning film will screen free in Nicosia on 30 September, followed by a discussion on marine conservation.

A special screening of the Emmy-winning documentary Ocean with David Attenborough will take place at the University of Cyprus in Nicosia on 30 September, with free admission to the public.

The event is organised by Pristine Seas – National Geographic Society and Revive Our Ocean, in cooperation with the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research, Cyprus Environment Foundation, Marine & Environmental Research (MER) Lab and the University of Cyprus’ Oceanography Centre.

Exploring life beneath the waves

Narrated by David Attenborough, the film takes viewers through coral reefs, kelp forests and the open ocean, showcasing the diversity and importance of marine life.

It also examines pressures facing marine ecosystems, including destructive fishing practices and coral bleaching, while documenting examples of marine life recovering after effective conservation measures were introduced.

The film is a co-production by Silverback Films and Open Planet Studios, in association with All3Media International, National Geographic and Minderoo Pictures.

It is directed by Toby Nowlan, Keith Scholey and Colin Butfield.

Expert discussion to follow

After the screening, a round-table discussion featuring marine experts will explore the challenges facing the world’s seas and examine ways of protecting and restoring marine ecosystems.

The evening will conclude with a reception where guests will have the opportunity to sample edible invasive alien species.

The initiative is intended to raise awareness of the impact invasive species can have on local ecosystems, as well as their potential for sustainable use.
