Doctors treating patients from Cyprus in other European countries are a step closer to being able to see their hospital reports, lab results and medical images. Cyprus has received approval to begin testing a new service for exchanging clinical documents through MyHealth@EU, the European network for cross-border health data. The approval was granted unanimously by EU experts on 13 October 2026.
What the approval covers
The approval was granted to Cyprus’s National Contact Point for eHealth (NCPeH) as part of the development of cross-border eHealth services on the island.
According to an announcement by the National eHealth Authority, the development paves the way for Cyprus to expand the services it offers through MyHealth@EU, with the aim of gradually strengthening the cross-border exchange of clinical information between participating European countries.
Which documents are included
The clinical documents covered by the new service include:
- Hospital reports and discharge summaries
- Laboratory results
- Medical reports
- Medical images
Why it matters for patients abroad
According to the authority, adding clinical document exchange to Cyprus’s services broadens the scope for the secure sharing of comprehensive medical information. This keeps health professionals better informed and supports better patient care.
The authority notes that this is particularly important when a patient needs treatment in another participating European country, as the information can help doctors better understand the patient’s medical history and needs.
How Cyprus reached this stage
The National eHealth Authority said the approval followed the successful completion of functional testing in July 2026and a thorough compliance audit in August 2026, which was completed without a single observation.
On 13 October 2026, the eHealth Member States Expert Group (eHMSEG) unanimously approved the launch of the service, confirming that Cyprus is ready to move to the next stage of the process.
Part of the European Health Data Space
The development builds on Cyprus’s participation in MyHealth@EU since May 2025 and forms part of wider efforts to implement the European Health Data Space (EHDS), the announcement concluded.
