The DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art has launched an open call for emerging artists from Greece and Cyprus to participate in "Y2K", an exhibition scheduled to run from 26 May to 27 October 2027 at the foundation's exhibition space in Nea Ionia, Athens.
The initiative aims to support and showcase contemporary artistic practices by providing a platform for creators at a significant stage of their professional development.
Broad range of artistic disciplines
The call is open to artists working across a wide spectrum of contemporary art forms, including:
- Painting
- Sculpture
- Photography
- Video
- Installation art
- Digital art
- Interdisciplinary practices
The foundation noted that video works selected for the exhibition will be presented exclusively on television screens.
Through the exhibition, DESTE seeks to highlight new artistic voices and perspectives exploring the social, cultural and technological transformations shaping the contemporary world through the lens of a younger generation.
Eligibility criteria
Applications are open to Greek and Cypriot artists born in 1994 or later, regardless of their artistic medium.
Applicants must also be available to participate in the exhibition during its presentation period.
Application requirements
Candidates are asked to submit:
- An up-to-date CV, including contact details and links to personal websites or social media accounts.
- A portfolio featuring recent work.
- An artist's statement outlining their creative practice.
- A detailed proposal for the work they wish to present in the exhibition, accompanied by supporting explanatory text.
All application materials must be submitted in English.
The complete application should be compiled into a single PDF document, clearly labelled with the applicant's name, and uploaded through the submission link provided by the DESTE Foundation.
Exhibition dates
"Y2K" will be held from 26 May to 27 October 2027 at the DESTE Foundation's exhibition venue in Athens.
The open call offers young artists from Greece and Cyprus an opportunity to present their work within a major contemporary art exhibition and participate in a wider dialogue on the creative concerns and cultural perspectives of their generation.
