Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) Press Release:

A new and distinctive artistic intervention now decorates the grounds of a Limassol Primary School in Mesa Geitonia, vividly highlighting the important role of education as a force of liberation, inspiration and creativity. The work was created by Rafaelia Christofi, a third‑year student in the Fine Arts Department at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT).

Inspired by knowledge, creativity and inclusion

According to the school, the central theme of the composition is an open book – a source of light and creation – which carries children into knowledge, learning and enlightenment. From its pages emerge additional books that symbolically give pupils the power to transcend the boundaries of the classroom and the school, and to change the world.

Children flourish, progress and spread their wings for new discoveries and creative endeavours when they operate in an environment where respect, love, safety and care coexist – without any form of discrimination.

The mural also emphasises core life values such as respect, safety, inclusion, friendship, solidarity and a love of learning, transforming an outdoor space into a vibrant visual environment that engages pupils daily.

The mural was created using spray paint and acrylics – techniques that allow for strong, vivid colours and dynamic forms, contributing to the lively aesthetic of the artwork.

Linking art with society and education

This initiative highlights the active role of CUT’s Fine Arts Department and the School of Fine and Applied Arts in connecting artistic creation with society and education. Through actions that bring art outside academic spaces and into the everyday life of the local community, students gain the opportunity to apply their knowledge and artistic skills in practice, contributing to the creation of environments that promote aesthetic cultivation and humanistic values.

At the same time, such initiatives strengthen the relationship between the University, society and the city’s schools, promoting cooperation, culture and creative expression as tools for education and social cohesion.

The school community expresses its warm thanks to the mural’s creator for this important contribution, which leaves a lasting imprint on the space and on the learning experience of the children. It also extends its thanks to CUT’s Fine Arts Department for its immediate and positive response to collaborate with the school.
