The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works says 63,144 defective airbags have been replaced in Cyprus under the nationwide recall. A further 4,327 appointments are already booked through the end of January 2026.

The recall began in February 2025, identifying 81,060 affected vehicles. Since then, 7,134 vehicles have been deregistered or declared immobilised, while 10,782 had MOT certificates cancelled for failure to complete the recall.

Replacement part deliveries are ongoing. Most pending appointments are expected to be completed in November 2025, with additional bookings extending into January 2026.

Support for vulnerable groups

The Ministry is considering support measures for people in vulnerable groups or with disabilities who have confirmed appointments but whose vehicles remain immobilised while awaiting parts.

What owners should do

Owners who have not yet responded are urged to contact their dealer or service centre immediately to arrange replacement. Companies are asked to speed up parts supply and improve service capacity to clear the backlog.
